FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

the new giacobetti paul gallery is proud to present

the opening reception of
shot

On Thursday, November 5th from 5.30 to 8.30pm The Giacobetti Paul Gallery opens in the heart of Dumbo. Its inaugural exhibition, 'SHOT', features the photography and video of Simon Kahn, Cynthia Lawson Jaramillo, Ji Ye Kim, Mylène Giacobetti and Jimmy Fountain. Discuss the mission of the new gallery with Stephen or plumb the depths of the work with the artists, all over a glass of gallery wine. The show will run through November 29th with regular hours Wednesday through Sunday 12 to 6pm. Closed for Thanksgiving. For more information visit giacobettipaul.com.

The Giacobetti Paul Gallery opens with a bang. On the surface, 'Shot' is an exhibition of works that were brought to life through a camera lens. Everything after that is a paradox. Photographic paintings, still motion pictures, moving still pictures, the menace of the heartland, the natural elegance of the urban landscape and the ugliness of vanity. Or, at least, the irony. There are hints of Hockney's polaroids, echoes of Cormac McCarthy, Monet with a Nikon and even a little Bill Maher. And each of the works in a brand new voice. It is a fascinating exhibition.

To get to Giacobetti Paul by subway take the F train to the York St stop. Down the hill a block and 2 blocks to the left. By car it's anybody's guess but type in the address 111 Front St on Mapquest and see what they say.

The Giacobetti Paul Gallery has been a long time in the making. The new home in Dumbo is 'New York permanent', we're there for at least the next 5 years. For the next 9 months we will present a new exhibition each month and coordinate the openings with the Dumbo First Thursdays, a monthly extravaganza featuring most, if not all, of the best galleries in the area. We are very excited about the new gallery which marks the beginning of the next phase of this remarkable project. We hope that you will join us for the openings and keep up to date with our progress by regularly checking the new website, giacobettipaul.com.

Excerpts from my work "28 Days" is part of a Colombian video art exhibition currently up in the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Buenos Aires. Let me know if you are able to see the show since unfortunately I won't be able to travel! This clip is day 28 from the last week during which I was reading the headlines in three different languages from three online news sources.

Barcelona.. we shall meet again...

Just regaining my New York work ethic after a visiting Barcelona this summer for a small exhibit at the RED 03 Gallery. RED 03 is a great one woman show run my Marcela Jordan, who manages all aspects of the gallery while seeking out and exhibiting international artists. It was an incredible experience to meet with so many artists from all over the world, even though I was struggling to understand Spanish when it's spoken with a French or Japanese accent. We made a brief video of the exhibit. There are also some other really interesting artists from Brooklyn featured on Marcela's you tube site. My favorite was Amanda Keefe, who traces the shadows of her hanging sculptures onto the walls of her installation.

MadArtist Rocio Rodriguez Salceda in the News!

Rocio Rodriguez Salceda, a member of Madarts since 2008, was featured on the cover of the well-known newspaper in Madrid, Spain "El Diario de Alcalá" and in the most recent issue of ArtInfo.

In the spanish article Rocío talks about many things including her most recent show at Tina Kim gallery in Chelsea, New York. When asked what will one find in the show, she responds, "The work of six emerging artists, all women and from different nationalities, who work towards a feminine counter-identity with aspects that don't include 'this face and this (nude) body' and who question their professional future trying to resist the social expectations that we still suffer as women. That's it."
